Comme des Garçons spring 2010 collection

Rei Kawakubo described her superb men’s SS10 Comme des Garçons collection as being “a random collage,” and spoke also of “power from indeterminate collection.” This translated into a visually rich and pleasing collection which created an interesting menswear statement by taking different elements of men’s clothing and ‘randomly’ throwing them back together, hence the jackets with ties on, the clashing prints (plaids, florals, stripes…), the use of Arran knits as decoration, the shirts with jacket pockets... There were all the small, quirky details you expect from Comme (trousers rolled up to reveal unexpected bright gingham lining, sensible shoes with neon colour panels, tunics worn over tailored trousers for variation in silhouette…) and overall we just really loved this collection, and the statement it made about the randomness of fashion and, indeed, life.
